Leading a team of transactional accounting staff and reporting into the most senior member of the business services department, the key task of this role is the leadership and day to day management of the finance function and delivery of key management information to the Partners and rest of the business. It also has the potential to get involved in strategic-level projects which will help the business to continue on its steady but ambitious growth plans.
The key responsibilities of the position include the reviewing and management of the firm’s accounting compliance including SAR’s and anti-money laundering regulations; preparation and maintenance of the partners accounts and liaising with external advisors on tax issues; preparation of the annual LLP accounts; production of budgets, monitoring budget variances and discussing these variances with budget holders; the production of monthly management accounts and financial reports; monitoring cashflow including analysing lock up and debtor days and flagging any potential issues prior to them becoming more problematic to the business; and alongside other members of the senior management team working on ad hoc projects, lending financial and accounting insight and expertise.
Applicants should hold an accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) and have excellent legal sector experience. This should include expert knowledge of the SAR’s and a strong understanding of partnership tax implications. A good level of law firm practice management systems and an ability to adapt to new systems should be demonstrable as well as strong Excel skills (database and Macro level). The role requires a good communicator who is able to work alongside colleagues at all levels with confidence and has the ability to breakdown accounting terminology and jargon into a language understandable to non-accounting staff.
