This leading law firm in the North East is currently looking to recruit a Head of Finance into its Grimsby office. Reporting into the CEO and managing a team of 20 members of staff this is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified accountant to step into a leadership role. The main purpose of the position is to ensure the firm achieves its financial strategic objectives, with responsibility for the overall flow of financial information to key stakeholders. The role sits on the firm’s Operational Management Board.

The role’s key responsibilities include providing the Finance team with strategic direction and leadership, ensuring the team works as “one team” delivering outstanding service to both internal and external client; setting the Finance team’s vision and objectives in support of the Firm’s overall strategy; ensuring the team is properly resourced and fit for purpose; contribute to the development of the Firm’s strategy, providing financial and commercial input on business decisions relating to the Firm achieving its strategic vision and goals; and provide expertise/input on market opportunities including how to structure funding finance.

The role also involves leading the financial implementation and integration of any changes which arise as a result of any new business opportunities that take place; preparing and presenting financial information to the senior leadership team including the Firm’s equity partners and the wider partner team; developing and maintaining existing relationships with funders and auditors and introducing new relationships as appropriate; and inputting on the capital structure of the Firm, making recommendations around the balance of debt/equity moving forward.

Technical input includes developing, driving and maintaining the Firm’s financial KPI’s and metrics; ensuring that the production of accounting information is in line with best practice and meets the needs of a ‘non-financial’ population; provide an accurate and timely financial service including the setting and monitoring of budgets, forecasts, cash flow analysis, management and financial accounts; taking responsibility for all statutory reporting, compliance, annual accounts and VAT, including COFA and SRA regulations; overseeing the fixed asset register, accruals and pre-payments; consolidating all accounts at yearend; producing and presenting management accounts within agreed deadlines; and working, with the Finance team, ensuring that all procedures are being consistently followed including purchase ledger, credit control, billing, fixed assets, prepayments, accruals and cashiering duties. It requires strong communication skills and involves keeping the CEO is appraised of key financial issues on a timely basis; managing the annual audit process to ensure statutory accounts are produced within the required deadlines; running the budgeting process including working with budget holders on setting and maintaining their costs and liaising with Division Heads in relation to divisional finance/queries.

Applicants should be qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) accountants with experience in professional services, ideally with some law firm exposure. A strong commercial acumen and excellent communication skills should be demonstrable. Good IT skills would be very advantageous including advanced knowledge of Excel.
