Totum are delighted to be working with one of the City’s leading law firms in its search for a Head of Financial Operations. Reporting into the CFO and leading a department of c. 30 staff, this is a senior managerial role that requires a seasoned legal finance specialist with excellent relevant technical skills and leadership qualities. The main objective of the role is the effective supervision and management of all of the finance operations teams, retaining a high level of support and service around the business for any accounts payable or receivable requirements and implementing processes increasing efficiencies in these areas.

The Head of Finance Operations will oversee the billing, credit control, revenue control, payables, cashiering and payroll teams. The responsibilities of the role include providing support and direction to the financial operations management team; being involved at a strategic level in any finance systems improvements or implementations that directly impact the finance operations functions; continual review of the processes and policies of the department, implementing efficiency enhancements where appropriate; liaising with the business to discuss where the department’s service can be improved; managing regulatory requirements, including dealing with queries relating to SAR compliance and regularly catching up with the firm’s COFA to discuss issues relating to this subject; reporting any potential issues arising in the payables or receivables areas to the CFO including cash-flow, SAR compliance, process improvements and any other related issues; and the effective and efficient execution of payroll services, working closely with HR to ensure the smooth running of that operation. The role also has overall responsibility for the motivation of the department and involves day to day managerial duties including annual appraisals and regular catch ups, providing career paths for team members, overseeing disciplinary procedures, reviewing resourcing and creating business cases for new hires or team restructures.

Applicants should have extensive financial operations experience at a senior management level within a commercial law firm environment. Management of teams of 30+ individuals across both payables and receivables needs to be demonstrated as does a track record of managing change and transformation within departments. Excellent communication skills and good systems experience are both pre-requisites. An accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) is desirable but individuals with broad experience in the management of large, legal finance operations teams will definitely be considered.
