This role will promote and foster a "compliance culture" across the whole firm and to be a trusted and approachable resource for all partners and staff

This broad role, at an international law firm, taking a proactive lead in managing the firm's compliance with its legal and regulatory obligations – covering areas such as regulatory compliance; risk management; conflicts of interest; tenders; framework agreements and outside counsel guidelines; anti money laundering requirement and international regulations.

Selected responsibilities include:

  • Providing ongoing support to the COLP and COFA, including horizon scanning and the review and analysis of regulatory changes
  • Giving expert advice and support to the Management team, the wider partnership and the firm as a whole on all matters of risk, compliance and ethics, including matters relating to strategic business initiatives
  • Promoting and fostering a "compliance culture" across the whole firm and to be a trusted and approachable resource for all partners and staff
  • Providing support to the Directors of the support functions and their teams in relation to compliance and risk management issues arising within their areas and policy development
  • Supporting the Lexcel Partner and promote best practice across the firm in accordance with the firm's Lexcel accreditation
  • Reviewing tender documentation and specific compliance/business probity-related questions in tenders.
  • Taking a proactive role in the selection and scheduling of risk and compliance-related training.
  • Leading a small, but growing, team of compliance staff across multiple offices and to promote the compliance function within the firm.

This role will suit someone who has:

  • Broad and deep knowledge of the law and regulation as it applies to a law firm operating across multiple jurisdictions and diverse practice areas
  • A keen eye for detail and a desire to "get it right" coupled with strong commercial awareness and the ability to apply the law in a pragmatic fashion
  • A flexible and approachable approach - the successful candidate will be a valued expert who instils confidence in and is trusted by personnel at all levels within the firm to give a clear and reliable response to compliance queries.
  • Experience of running a team
