Fladgate is an advanced, commercially astute international law firm serving a wide range of corporate, institutional and private clients and proud of its reputation for commercial pragmatism in tackling complex and business-critical matters. Operating from prestigious offices based in Covent Garden, the firm has recently posted a double-digit increase in revenue for the sixth consecutive year.

The firm is progressive, entrepreneurial and very much in growth mode. It provides an expert, personalised service in which partners have a very high degree of engagement. The firm is a member of the International Lawyers Network, a worldwide association of high-quality full service law firms based in 67 countries. Approximately 40% of the business is derived from non-UK clients who are investing in or trading with the UK. See www.fladgate.com for more information.

This hire will become an integral member of the firm’s senior management team and take on responsibility for the development and delivery of the firm’s operations, including their financial, information technology and buildings strategies. The COO will operate as a co-opted member of the Partnership Board to ensure the effective running of the firm, guaranteeing business and profit targets are met, and contributing to the firm’s ongoing strategic development.

This position would suit someone with experience in a comparable role, ideally with law firm experience and certainly with experience working within a partnership structure. The role requires a qualified accountant, possibly with additional business qualifications, and a naturally confident leader and strategic thinker who is effective at building relationships, collaborating and sharing skills & knowledge.

A role profile exists which goes into more detail but specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing business strategy, in particular making sure that revenue and profit generation objectives are met;
  • Identifying, advising and prioritising the firm’s key investment decisions;
  • Driving innovation and leading key business projects ensuring objectives and business benefits are achieved;
  • With the Chairman, developing firm-wide strategic goals and plans, ensuring all partners and directors are engaged, motivated and effectively rewarded for delivering business targets;
  • Acting as ‘wise counsel’ to the Chairman, Partnership Board, Heads of Department and Partners to ensure they are aware of the potential business impact of their decisions;
  • Leading, managing and developing effective Finance and IT functions, ensuring appropriate investments are made and systems and policies are in place to enable the further development of the firm; and
  • Working closely and collegiately with senior colleagues in HR, Risk & Compliance and Business Development to ensure a value add, integrated, teamwork approach is the norm so all benefit

This is a wonderful opportunity at a firm which is successful and ambitious but also a nice place to work.
