Reporting to the Managing Partner and the Partnership Committee, the COO of this highly successful firm will be responsible for formulating the strategy of the firm with the Partners and driving the performance and development of the firm’s business in line with the agreed strategy.

The appointee will be expected to be a major contributor to the development of the firm’s strategic goals and will take a leading role in ensuring that the business continues to develop momentum as a modern, forward thinking professional services firm.

The COO will be responsible for the firm’s infrastructure and based on its future and growing needs, will continue to build and maintain a robust operating platform for the firm. They will provide leadership to the directors of the business services teams to ensure that they and their teams deliver to the best of their ability, enabling and facilitating the firm’s objective to enhance its market position, client service, cost base, revenue and profitability.

The COO is accountable to the Partnership Committee and reports to the Managing Partner for the day to day management and financial control of the firm. They will assist the Managing Partner to ensure that the business strategy is being implemented effectively at an operational level and will attend Partnership Committee, Equity Partners’ meetings and other partners’ meetings, participating in all decision making processes. It is anticipated that the COO will provide partnership secretarial support for these meetings.

The COO will also provide support to partners to enable them to achieve their business objectives in an equitable and collaborative manner. They may be involved in partner appraisals and will be expected to provide support in relation to partner and staff remuneration and some regulatory issues where appropriate.

The COO will act as the COFA for the firm and will ensure that the firm meets the requirements of the Lexcel accreditation and all applicable legal and regulatory requirements including the Solicitors Accounts Rules and the Solicitors Code of Conduct as amended from time to time.

Suitable candidates must have significant experience working in a general management (COO) capacity in a professional services firm. Whilst this it is highly likely that the candidate will have a finance qualification this is not a pre-requisite, although a very high level of financial acumen absolutely is.
