Totum are delighted to be working with one of the City’s fastest growing law firms in its search for its first Director of Finance. Reporting into the firm’s Management Team (and Partners) this is a really exciting opportunity to join an ambitious, dynamic law firm as it goes through a period of exceptional change. With three offices (London, France and the US) and a fourth expected soon the role is a great chance for a qualified accountant with extensive international accounting experience at a Director level to work with some of the brightest minds in the legal sector.

The responsibilities and duties are an interesting blend of financial controls, management and acting as an internal trusted adviser. The SME nature of the business does require someone happy to get involved in the detail as well as the firm’s strategy. As well as managing the finance team, the Director of Finance will have ownership of the financial regulatory compliance (SRA, HMRC, any other relevant regulatory bodies’ requirements) and manage the various third party relationships associated with finance including banking, tax advisors, auditors and pension providers. Preparation of the annual financial statements, running the annual budgeting process, creating monthly and quarterly management reports including commentary, preparing partner’s distribution schedules and maintaining cash-flow forecasts for the firm are some of the more hands-on elements of the position. The role also involves overseeing the payroll for each office, reviewing VAT returns, maintaining partner’s current accounts and tax reserve reconciliations and reviewing the firm’s transactional processes, ensuring that they are all fit for purpose. There will also be ad hoc project work and, as the most senior finance professional in the firm, an expectation that the Director of Finance will be able to deal with a range of queries and be able to respond with rational, well thought through options.

Applicants should be qualified accountants (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with extensive managerial experience, preferably at a Director level. Previous legal sector experience is highly desirable although other professional services might be considered. The role requires an excellent communicator who will be able to build strong relationships with the senior management team quickly and effectively.
