A great opportunity has arisen for an ACA (or international equivalent) qualified accountant to join one of the City’s fastest growing law firms as an interim Finance Controller, reporting into the Global Finance Director. With a turnover of £200m+ and over thirty offices globally in every populated continent, this is a truly international firm and requires an individual with excellent multi-jurisdiction accounting experience as well fantastic communication and leadership skills. The role’s purpose is to work closely with the Finance Director to provide a high level of financial governance, producing timely and accurate financial and management information, reporting solutions and operational support to maintain the high standard of service offered to the Firm's internal and external clients internationally. Managing a team of 11 via two direct reports, the role acts as the final review of the management and financial reports prior to being delivered to the Finance Director.

The roles responsibilities include the management of the Financial Reporting and FP&A teams, monitoring performance and workflows, setting and reviewing performance objectives. The financial reporting team produce the monthly board report, UK and international management reports, team accounts and bank reporting pack and the Financial Controller oversees this process closely, making sure the information is accurate and delivered on time. The role has responsibility for ensuring that local and international accounting standards are maintained including liaising directly with overseas offices and reviewing and providing commentary and analysis on monthly financial performance. The Financial Controller will also manage the audit process across the global firm. The FP&A team provide commercial, relevant and practical advice and financial analysis to the Partnership to support the Firm's decision-making and drive improvements to the Firm's gross profit margin, the Financial Controller oversees this as well as has hands on involvement in the higher-level input required.  It also supports the Firm's budgeting and forecasting process for revenue and direct costs.  The FC manages and coordinates the budgeting and reforecasting processes, monitors and reports on cashflow, makes sure each office has sufficient funds, prepares the monthly financial presentation for the board and provides targeted financial information across the firm. The role provides financial analysis to support the firm-wide lateral hire programme as well as for internal partner and fee earner promotions and appraisals. Working closely with the Partnership Tax Manager, the Financial Controller makes sure that Partners’ drawings and profit share are dealt with on a timely basis and also works closely with the HR team to make sure the payroll transactions are accurate and paid on time. On occasion the Financial Controller will be expected to deputise for the Finance Director and will act as a key part of the senior finance management team, getting involved in any number of ad hoc projects.

The role requires a versatile, quick-minded qualified accountant who can blend excellent technical accounting skills with strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management experience. Previous experience of working in a fast-paced professional service environment in an international business must be demonstrable, law firm experience is desirable.
