Totum is currently working with one of the UK’s largest and leading law firms in its search for a Head of Partner Affairs. Reporting to the Head of Finance and managing a small team of Partnership Accountants the role has primary responsibility for the accounting and reporting of profit shares, tax reserves, payments, disbursements and capital on a partner by partner basis, across multi-jurisdictions and multi-currencies.  This is a senior-level appointment requiring a qualified accountant with the gravitas and ability to manage partner-level relationships in the UK and overseas.

The responsibilities for the role include managing all aspects of the Partners’ drawings’ processes including organising regular “Surgery Days” to work through any issues individual Partners are having, working with the benefits team in relation to partners’ benefit schemes, reviewing and then ensuring that all drawings payments are made accurately each month and bonus payments each quarter. The Head of Partner Affairs will meet with newly appointed Partners (lateral hires and internal promotions) to ensure they understand the partner drawings processes and meet with retiring Partners to review balances and make sure the financial matters run as smoothly as possible. There is plenty of overlap with the tax and accounts teams, the Head of Partner affairs will liaise with the UK Partner Tax Manager to discuss the impact of tax reserves on each Partner and input into the LLP accounts all aspects of reporting members’ interests.

This role is going to require a qualified accountant with extensive partnership accounting experience as well as a thorough understanding of partnership tax. Because of this it is likely that applicants will come from a law firm environment although individuals who have been working in other large partnership environments would be considered. Excellent communication skills, eye for detail and good management skills are all pre-requisites. A high level of UK GAAP will be required as will a good level of understanding of Excel.
