Totum are delighted to be working with one of the world’s leading offshore law firms in its search for a Financial Controller to be based in its Bermuda office. Reporting into the CFO and Director of Finance, the purpose of the role is to effectively manage the financial affairs of the Bermudan office and its finance department whilst also acting as key Business Partner to the Office Managing Partner, supporting the on-going development and deployment of a business strategy for the firm.There will be particular focus on matter pricing, profitability and the management of lock up.

The role will have four key areas of responsibility – working capital management, key performance reporting, finance management & reporting for the Bermuda office and managing the finance team of six. Working closely with the Office Managing Partner, the Financial Controller will lead on the working capital strategies for the office, implementing and improving policies resulting in a reduction in lock-up days. Working with the CFO, the Financial Controller will assist in the implementation of a matter pricing model. The individual in the role will be involved in continual review of the firm’s KPI’s, advising on areas of focus or concern and how improvements in financial discipline can be driven. The Financial Controller will regularly prepare financial updates for the Managing Partner and other Partners and Attorneys, preparing and presenting on them. Management on the firm’s Income Statement and driving operating efficiencies to improve profitability are also part of the role’s responsibilities. The Financial Controller will take full responsibility for the preparation of the monthly management accounts, cashflow forecasting, annual business planning and business planning and the annual audit process. The inputting of internal financial controls and documentation of business processes and monthly payroll process are also part of the Financial Controller’s duties. Team management duties consist of providing leadership and direction, providing or organizing training where required and mentoring and coaching the individuals in the department.

Applicants should be qualified accountants (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CA, CPA) and have experience of working in a leadership role with strong commercial finance experience. Alongside strong technical accounting skills including experience of working within IFRS accounting, applicants should also be able to display excellent communication skills and be comfortable working alongside senior stakeholders including partners. Extensive previous legal industry or similar professional service sector experience (management consultancy, accountancy practice, etc.) is a pre-requisite and must be demonstrable on CVs.
