Totum are excited to be working with a law firm that began trading in the last couple of years and is already proving itself to be a market leader in the space within the sector that it occupies. It has now reached a size and complexity to require a part-time (three days a week) Finance Director to join its ranks. Reporting into the Managing Partner and forming part of the core of the management team, this is a great opportunity for an ambitious, versatile qualified accountant with legal sector or another corporate professional services experience to join a collegiate, friendly, ambitious environment.

The role holds responsibility for the internal financial controls, developing necessary procedures and processes and giving training to Partners and staff in them. The Finance Director will liaise with external advisors and the Risk Consultant regularly to ensure these procedures are kept up to date and are as efficient as possible. There is a new PMS anticipated to be installed in early 2019 and the Finance Director will take a lead role in the choice and implementation of this system. The Finance Director will provide weekly and monthly reports, develop suitable KPI’s for fee earners and be responsible for the provision of the monthly management accounts. The role also holds responsibility for the firm’s working capital management including WIP control and debtor days. The Finance Director will work closely with the Partners in the setting of budgets and ongoing management of them. The firm’s Accounts Manager will report into the Finance Director and the FD will sign off monthly bank reconciliations as well as cover the Accounts Manager’s workload in their absence.

The Finance Director will have overall responsibility for the preparation of and submission of the firm’s financial accounts. The role also has responsibility for liaising with external advisors about the LLP tax return and individual partnership tax returns as well as the VAT return. The Finance Director holds the relationship with the firm’s bank and insurance brokers. Alongside the Managing Partner, the Finance Director will help to add management to the firm and deal with the day to day running of the business which may often go beyond the scope of the job description.

Applicants should be qualified accountants who can display versatility, the ability to lead but also be willing to get involved in the detail as and when necessary. Previous experience of working in a law firm would be highly desirable, otherwise a corporate professional service environment would also be considered.
