Our client is an outstandingly successful international law firm which has experienced rapid growth in recent times.  It is a firm with a clear and coherent strategy and sector focus which has had consistent leadership for several years.  The firm is now seeking to appoint a new Chief People Officer.  This role, which will report to the Chief Executive, will lead a team of HR professionals which services the firm across its substantial network of 29 offices.  It will work alongside other business services leaders (covering Finance, BD/Marketing and Technology) as part of a senior group of individuals which is responsible for ensuring the firm gets best in class support from all the key functional areas, which are so critical in today’s market.

 

There are some key priorities for the new appointee, which include creating a consistent and uniform approach (whilst taking into account the cultural nuances associated with a global firm) to the way the firm runs its HR function.  Some examples include: the creation of a more harmonious graduate recruitment programme; the implementation of a more uniform approach to learning and development and a clearer policy around global mobility.  There is also an interest in recruiting someone with experience in the use of data and analytics in the context of the “people” agenda.

 

Suitable candidates for this role must have genuine international experience and this will hopefully have taken in Europe, Asia and perhaps the US.  Experience in professional services is preferred, although the firm will happily consider candidates who have experience in other environments but the aptitude to thrive in the rather unusual and, at times, idiosyncratic world of partnerships.
