Corporate Social Responsibility

Each year we review a wide range of organisations with a view to supporting them in their charitable endeavours – choosing two (by a very democratic voting system including all our employees!) to support as our Charities of the Year.

For 2018, our two chosen charities are:

  1. The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which raises money for The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre, helping to fund state-of-the-art equipment and ground-breaking research – www.royalmarsden.org.
  2. Headway SELNWK, which supports individuals, families and carers affected by an acquired brain injury (SELNWK stands for the area this particular branch of Headway supports – ie, South East London and North West Kent) – www.headwayselnwk.co.uk.

We have a calendar of events to raise money throughout the year. These include a wide range of fundraising endeavours from in-office activities (including a Halloween charity fundraiser (snapshots below!), novelty hat/jumper days and cake sales for the whole building) to activities further afield, including sponsored walks, concerts and skydiving. We also hold an annual Totum Quiz with our clients and proceeds raised at that event go jointly to the winning team’s nominated charity and our two chosen charity partners. Lots of other exciting ideas are in the pipeline and we will report on progress as we go!

Previous projects includes the workshop we took part in with Clean Break, a charity that helps women who have fallen on tough times to get back into the workplace. As recruiters we felt that this was an area where we could genuinely help, giving advice on structuring and writing CVs that would enable these women to find the right job and a new start in life. We found both the women and this experience inspirational and it is something we will look to continue to do in the future

Over the past few years we have also worked with CMS in supporting their PRIME programme. PRIME is an alliance of law firms and legal departments across the UK, which provides work experience to young people from less privileged backgrounds who might otherwise not have the opportunity to access careers in the legal world. We provide sessions on CV workshops and mock interviews for these students wanting to gain access into the legal sector, either in a legal or business services environment.

These activities complement our on-going participation in national charitable events such as Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children, Red Nose Day and Children in Need.

We keep this page updated on our progress across these areas. In the meantime if you have any questions regarding our approach to CSR or would like to chat to someone about our programme, please, contact Liz Chappell or Catherine Young.
